In our Learner Spotlight series, we’re showcasing how our amazing learners are pursuing their passions. Find out about Isra’s journey to becoming a climate justice advocate, including organising UCT OHS’s first ever virtual climate justice sit-in.

Meet Isra

Isra Nordien is a Grade 10 learner and Climate Justice Learner Representative at UCT Online High School.

Aside from excellence in her schoolwork, Isra has developed her advocacy and activism. Since joining in 2022, Isra has taken advantage of new opportunities via UCT Online High School.

Most recently, she visited the Susan and Michael Dell Foundation, a foundation focused on addressing urban policy, and organised our school’s first ever virtual climate justice sit-in to raise awareness about climate change.

“This school puts so much emphasis on making sure that our learners are able to do what they would like to do and just become the best future leaders possible. I’ve been loving it,” says Isra.

Seeing the world around her and how the planet is being treated sparked Isra to start making changes in her own life and speaking up on how we can all be part of the change.
