Online schools, such as UCT Online High School, operate under the accreditation of registered examination bodies - in our case, the South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI). SACAI is officially accredited by Umalusi, the Quality Council responsible for standards in general and further education and training. You can view UCT Online High School listed under SACAI’s Registered ‘Distance Education Providers’ here or in the downloadable PDF (Line item no. 43).

Through SACAI, UCT Online High School offers the National Senior Certificate (NSC) — the same recognised Matric qualification accredited by Umalusi and offered by traditional brick-and-mortar schools. This qualification is fully recognised by employers, tertiary institutions, and universities across South Africa.

We are also aware of the non-negotiables described by Umalusi. UCT Online High School, through SACAI, has contributed to the development of these non-negotiables and our school is fully compliant with these.

UCT Online High School successfully completed its first matric examinations in 2023 through SACAI, and our 2025 matric learners are currently writing their final exams at SACAI examination centres nationwide.

We want to reassure our families, learners, and prospective applicants that our curriculum and qualifications remain fully compliant with South African education legislation.

Established in 2021 as a partnership between the University of Cape Town and Valenture Institute, UCT Online High School continues to uphold UCT’s Vision 2030 commitment to expanding access to innovative, high-quality education for all South African teens.
