This is our mission.

UCT Online High School is launching a Learning Liberated Scholarship Programme to unleash South Africa's learning potential. Our mission is to make online education as affordable as possible to provide more education opportunities to bright young South Africans. As a result, we are collaborating with Corporate South Africa to make this vision a reality by unlocking the funds to make this possible. If you would like to be part of this exciting opportunity and apply for a potential scholarship you will need to complete a scholarship application as part of your UCT Online High School admissions application.

Why partial scholarships?

The Learning Liberated Scholarship programme offers partial scholarships for the January 2024 intake to make education more accessible to a diverse range of learners who may not afford the full tuition. This approach allows for more efficient distribution of financial aid, supporting a larger number of learners with available funds. Additionally, funding through donations and philanthropy increases support for the programme, as donors can see their tangible impact on multiple learners. Partial scholarships also foster a sense of commitment among recipients to maintain academic performance, leading to higher success rates. Furthermore, this financial assistance helps learners and their families manage education costs.

A partial scholarship includes 50% of the tuition fee for the duration of the scholarship awarded and 100% of the SACAI Grade 12 Examination fee. Partial scholarships make education more accessible to a diverse range of learners who may not afford the full tuition. This approach allows for more efficient distribution of financial aid, supporting a larger number of learners with the available funds. Partial scholarships also foster a sense of commitment among recipients to maintain academic performance, leading to higher success rates.

When do applications open/close?
Arrow icon

Scholarship applications for entry into grades 8-11 open Monday 4 September 2023 and close at midnight Tuesday 31 October 2023. No late applications will be accepted.

How do I apply for a scholarship?
Arrow icon

All guardians and learners wanting to apply for a Learning Liberated Scholarship will need to complete a full NSC admissions application to apply to be a learner at UCT Online High School. This includes paying a non-refundable application fee of R50.00 and a placement fee of R525.00. When the scholarship applications open on the 4th of September 2023, all interested guardians will be notified to formally submit their scholarship application online.

How do I apply if I am an existing UCT Online High School learner?
Arrow icon

Existing UCT Online High School learners who meet the eligibility criteria will be invited to apply via email. Please do not submit a new NSC application to join the school.

Why are we not accepting Grade 12 learners?
Arrow icon

We only offer scholarships to learners entering Grades 8 - 11 for the CAPS Curriculum which culminates in the NSC qualification. We currently do not offer scholarships to Grade 12 learners because of the demands, rigour and academic preparedness required for a successful completion of the important Matric year.

Does this apply to Adult Matric learners too?
Arrow icon

No, the Learning Liberated Scholarships are only offered to high school learners entering Grade 8 - 11 on the NSC curriculum.

What happens if my application is unsuccessful?
Arrow icon

If a learner does not receive a Learning Liberated Scholarship, the guardian will be informed of the decision via email. The guardian will have two options. Either they could continue with the regular NSC application process for a January 2024 enrolment or request a withdrawal of their application. It is important to note that all application and placement fees are non-refundable.

When will I hear if my application has been successful?
Arrow icon

Applications will be continuously assessed against the scholarship eligibility criteria as soon as applications open on the 4th of September 2023. The final list of successful scholarship recipients will be announced in early December 2023.
