What is an adult matric?

Adult Matric is a programme for second chances. Offered to anyone over the age of 21, it provides an opportunity to attain your Matric Certificate if you were unable to before or you’re looking to make up a previous qualification. Provided you pass the programme, your matric qualification will grant you access to higher education institutions to further yourself and your studies or upskill you to land that dream job.

Is adult matric the same as normal matric?

Adult Matric and normal high school matric are the same in terms of curriculum and qualification. Both Adult Matric and high school matric are taught the South African CAPS curriculum and result in a Matric Certificate. Aside from having to be 21 years old or older to register for Adult Matric, the only real difference is the time period in which you complete it. UCT Online High School’s Adult Matric programme will run for 18 months, as opposed to the year it takes for high schoolers to complete.

Advantages to receiving your matric certificate as an adult

Having a matric certificate opens you up to endless opportunities. Whether it be furthering your education or career, or even just boosting your confidence, your matric certificate is your ticket to the world.

Further your education

A matric certificate is a legal requirement when applying to study at any higher education institution in South Africa. Passing your matric allows you to further your studies in the field of your choice at tertiary level.

More career opportunities

When applying for job opportunities, the minimum requirement is generally having a matric certificate. You can use your matric certificate to gain experience at entry-level jobs and build yourself up in your work field. A matric certificate gets your foot in the door of your dream career.

Strengthen your CV

When doing your matric, you can pick and choose a selection of subjects outside of the required subjects. Through these different subjects, you gain an array of knowledge and skills you can use to strengthen your CV.

Boost your confidence

Completing your matric and walking away with a matric certificate is a major life achievement, something you can be proud of. You come away more academically confident, having gained new knowledge and experience in different subjects.

Study online

One of the greatest advantages of obtaining your matric certificate now is that it can be done online. No more crowded classrooms or spending money on petrol, you can learn from the location of your choice with structured flexibility. Learning modules are easily accessible and on hand, for any time you need to revisit a topic, you’re unsure about or for future reference. You can comfortably pass your matric with online learning.

Work and study at the same time

The flexibility of online learning is a factor that is appealing to working professionals. Online learning allows working individuals to fit their studies into their busy schedules. There are no live classes or in-person sessions to attend, learning modules are loaded online and adult matric learners can complete them at their own time in the allocated period.

Adult Matric is coming to UCT Online High School
