Taking ownership of your learning journey

Online learning requires a lot of independence. We provide the content and support to facilitate learning, but at the end of the day it’s up to you to actually do the work. A successful online learner needs a strong, self-motivated work ethic.

Meeting deadlines

Although there’s a lot of flexibility with online learning, you still have deadlines you need to meet.

You can move through the weekly content at your own pace, as long as you meet the required deadlines for lessons, tests, assignments etc. It’s important to make sure you don’t get left behind.

The same applies to Cycle Tests and Examinations, which will be written at set times according to the academic calendar.

Managing your time

Most adult learners study part-time while working a full-time job. This means balancing your work commitments with your study schedule, which can be tricky. You need to put effort into managing your time effectively. This means having a schedule and sticking to it.

You’ll probably need to commit to 20 hours of studying per week (at a minimum), which works out to about 3 hours per day. But, because our programme is flexible, you can structure your study schedule around your other commitments.

Working with a computer

Learning online requires technical proficiency. You need to know your way around a computer — how to work things like Word, the internet, and apps. But don’t worry too much if your computer skills aren’t the best, these are things that can be learnt.

Plus, our orientation programme will show you how to navigate the online learning platform to make sure you’re able to access content, submit assignments and much more.

You’ll also have access to our Technical Support team, who are available to offer tech assistance.

Asking for help

As an online learner, being proactive and asking for help when you need it is really important. If you encounter something you need help with, there’s always something that can be done to assist  — remember, you’re not alone in this. Our dedicated team of Support Coaches are always ready to help you along your journey.
